About the Book
Love and Letters in New England
Elizabeth Gallaher von Klemperer, a descendant of the lovers whose letters she explores in this book, was born in New Hampshire, started school in Paris, attended schools in Connecticut and New York, and in 1944 graduated from Smith College. After two years in the Navy, a Fulbright scholarship in France, and work for her doctorate at Harvard, she joined the Smith College English Department, where her research and teaching centered on Victorian literature and culture. Now retired, she travels, gardens, and writes. She lives in Northampton, Massachusetts, with her husband, a historian. They have a daughter, a son, and four grandchildren.About the Author
