About the Book

The 100 poems in this book are selected from Nicholas Gordon´s popular poetry Web site at http://www.poemsforfree.com. They include poems in free and blank verse, sonnets, villanelles, and name and number poems (poems that spell out names and numbers read vertically down the left side). They are about the experiences (love, death, goodness, evil, truth) and occasions (birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, holidays) of life. Some (the name poems) are portraits; others (the number poems) are about what it means to be a certain age.

Many of the poems were written in response to requests from readers. Please feel free to use the poems in this book for occasions of your own.

Nicholas Gordon is a poet who maintains a popular poetry Web site at http://members.aol.com/nickgo. He is a professor of English at New Jersey City State University. Born in 1940, he is married with three children.
