About the Book

Henriette Bojczuk’s memoir describes her lifelong struggle to achieve the full life she so ardently desired. Her book tells the story of her childhood in Poland under Nazi occupation, her persecution at the hands of the new Communist government, and her efforts to cope with a severe mother, abusive husband, and mental illness (bipolar disorder). In the midst of it she emigrated first to Germany and then to America. Here in the Unites States she learned a difficult, new language, and, after graduating from Pace University, she worked long hours as a nurse to bring up her two daughters. Throughout she persevered in her uphill battle to overcome mental illness. Her story of persistence, determination, and hope is one that many readers will find fascinating and inspirational.
