About the Author
Teresita Sparre Currie was born in Norway and grew up in the United States. Her mother, Susie Barth Sparre, was Norwegian; her father, Pehr Sparre, was Swedish, and his mother in turn was from Finland. After graduating from Bryn Mawr College, she married Francis Currie, a naval officer and lawyer. She worked at the Spence School in New York City for 25 years, teaching and serving as Director of Admissions. She now lives in Lyme, Connecticut. Mrs. Currie passed on her devotion to the family, and the Swedish language, to her five children. This book tells the remarkable story of her grandparents, Louis and Eva Mannerheim Sparre, both of whom launched artistic careers at a time when Sweden and Finland were caught up in a wave of nationalism and upheaval.
