About the Book

About the Author

Miller was a Press Attache and a Public Affairs Counselor at U. S. embassies in Latin America where and when terrorists were kidnapping and killing American diplomats. There, he countered Soviet black propaganda and worked to get a Russian agent to defect -- in addition to his daily work with the news media. Early in life he survived and recovered from polio, lost his father when he was ten, became a rebel and left home at sixteen. He was a soldier during World War II, landing on Normandy Beach, fought his way across Europe under General George Patton, went through the Battle of the Bulge and on to the Czech border. After that he was a student at five universities in the U. S. and Mexico, a merchant seaman between colleges, a reporter on daily newspapers in New York and Chicago and other cities and a public relations executive prior to entering the U. S. Foreign Service. He lived for periods in Europe, Asia and Latin America and has been in more than thirty countries. His dramatic story takes place during the Cold War and deals with his involvement in it.
