Three very different teenagers have their points of view and their guts shaken up on a voyage of discovery in the late 18th century. Participants in the adult responsibilities of charting North America’s west coast, they face unexpected challenges and risks as they survive expeditions during spring, 1792. Aboard the HMS Discovery with Captain George Vancouver they learn about life, and terror, pain and hard work as they learn to respect the sea, the ships that sail on her, and the men who sail them. This fictional diary is one kid’s account of experiences that changed his life, and how he saw the world. Alec Stuart stumbles over rules, and into people who played parts in dramatic events that matured him. It will grab the imaginations of anyone who ever was a teenager, who ever went to sea, or who wanted to go to sea. It’s a book for readers who relish excitement and adventure.
