About the Book

Northridge, CA – To make big achievements in life, one must have a focused mind, a burning heart and a strong spirit. It is only from inside that people can persevere and make things happen. These are the lessons that author Gale Raeteena McCray-Macon expresses through the story of her new picture book for children and their families, Joey The Frog.

In this story, Joey looks on while two other frogs play a game called “leapfrog” in the pond. Murray and Barry are excellent jumpers while Joey is a poor jumper. As a result, Murray and Barry refused to let him join them and went as far as calling him a loser. Living with anguish, Joey could only think of why others despise him and how he could somehow improve himself and win respect. Not wanting to be called a loser, he starts to relearn that all things are possible and that his past failures can be used to create a better future. Will Joey be able to improve himself and win the attention of his critics? Only time can tell.

At the heart of Joey The Frog is the lesson of believing in yourself and as such it will remind readers that they are in charge of their lives and that great achievements always start within themselves. Interestingly this book has a “Think Tank” section that will encourage children to explore alternative ways in which Joey could have thought about himself in his quest to succeed. Ultimately the story will show children and their parents that the impossible may be possible when a positive outlook is maintained.
