About the Author

Daaood William Mayfield was born on September 3, 1975, in Charleston, West Virginia. At the age of 3, his mother Dawn Anita Campbell moved him, along with his two older sisters, Ayawna Cassandra Carter and Nia Mileka Mayfield back to Ironton, Ohio, where she was born and raised. At the age of 18, Daaood was incarcerated in a maximum security prison in Ohio for aggravated robbery. He was released after serving 6 months of a 5-15 year prison sentence with an additional 3 years for using a gun. Upon his release, he went back to high school, graduated, received his diploma and applied to The Ohio State University. Inspite of his felony record, he was accepted and received a partial academic scholarship. He did not graduate, having being forced to drop out of school 2 classes shy of graduating. In 2004, he began to write poems and at the urging of a close friend, Saniosa Twitty, decided to self-publish a book of poetry. During this time he had many ups and downs, including being evicted and having to live in a homeless shelter for 4 months. Four years later, almost to the day, with the help of Xlibris, he created his own publishing company, Elegant and Eloquent Prose Publishing, and published his first book, A Life of Mystery, The Beginning. He plans on publishing 2 more books in 2009. Daaood would like to thank his mother, Dawn Anita Campbell, his stepfather Eugene Campbell, his father David Mayfield, his two older sisters, Ayawna Cassandra Carter and Nia Mileka Mayfield, his two younger brothers, Terrence Eugene Campbell and Tre’ Alec Campbell, his nephew, Jordan Shantez Bruton, his niece Ciarra Dawn Carter and all of his family in Ironton, Cincinnati, and Columbus, Ohio and family in West Virginia, for their love and support.
