About the Book
Nineteen-year-old Elizabeth Tolbert has been living two lives: one bound by the wishes of her pious, controlling father, the other a fantasy life with an imaginary lover. When she attends her grandfather’s funeral in the coal-mining town of Little Stoney, she finds her dual lives coming together in ways both thrilling – and devastating. Elizabeth decides to stay in Little Stoney and soon meets a man who bears a striking resemblance to the man in her fantasies. As their romance blossoms, scandals and grudges from the past emerge, and a long-buried secret sows bitterness and threatens to turn her dream of a new life into a nightmare. Two years later, she is caught in the crossfire of two men who despise each other. One of the men loves her unconditionally, the other has a debt to settle – and she and her babies are the ante.
