About the Book

Two lives are forever changed following the massacre of a wagon train by Ute Indians on the plains of The Colorado Territory in 1863. The tragedy brings together an unlikely pair; Melanie Blake, a nineteen year old on her way from Virginia to Denver to join her fiance and fulfill a promise to her dying mother; and Chato, an Indian scout for Fort Benson, banished two years earlier from his tribe for helping a wounded white trapper which led to the death of a brave.

After saving a Cheyenne child´s life, fiery Melanie is torn between two worlds--Indian and White--and torn between two loves her fiance, Jim, and the handsome Indian scout who rescued her and Little Arrow. Melanie fights a war within herself. Can she return to her world and Jim and forget the little boy she saved and the virile scout who saved them both? If not, can she forsake her kind and live as an Indian?

Chato, too, fights a war within himself. There is no room in his bitter heart for a white girl. But her brave actions in saving Little Arrow´s life and her enchanting beauty cause new and unwanted feelings, shattering the wall of hatred, which has surrounded his heart for two years.

Born in Elizabeth, Reneé grew up in Kearny, New Jersey. She received a B.A. in secondary education from Montclair University. Reneé, a teacher, presently resides in New Jersey with her husband, Ed.
