About the Book

Dan Shale rides from the war-torn states after he receives a letter from an uncle in trouble who lives in Texas. En route, he is captured by a mountain clan and escapes by killing one of them. Shale is befriended by Mulie, a mountain man. They are accused of rustling and almost hung. After arriving in Stonebluff, they learn that Shale’s uncle has been killed. Shale is sentenced to prison on a trumped-up robbery charge and escapes en route. He helps an Indian boy and takes him back to his Comanche camp and spends the winter. When the snow clears, Shale rides back to clear his name.

About the Author

The author writes about locales and things that he has seen and done. If the author writes of a creek or stream with good drinking water, then he has drank that water. He was born and raised in the Kentucky Hill country and has fished the mouth of Robinson Creek, swam in Meadow Creek, and dived from the steel bridge into the waters of Green River. He has set trotlines, camped on gravel bars, and roamed the back country hunting deer, rabbits, and squirrels. The communities and places in his novels are real. The story and characters are not. Other novels by the author are “A Foot Above Hell” and “If the River Could Talk.” Bob Close and his wife live in Texas.
