About the Book

This is the story of dedicated men with good intentions that ended up with more questions than answers.

THE PROBLEM

Hunger turned into a global menace, especially following the famine in Ethiopia and mass starvation in Somalia and Rwanda. Unless a radical solution is found, and soon, the world as we know it could change drastically, and perhaps, even go under.

THE GOAL

Since food production fell far behind birthrates in underdeveloped countries, famine is no longer a scientific prophecy but a present day reality. With the secret support of U.S. President, sparked by such fears, Professor Michael D. Forcyte was authorized to begin human tests aimed to halt human overpopulation of the crowded planet.. Following encouraging success with animals as subjects for a period of five years, the focus turned to human volunteers as the final phase before actual implementation.

FUTURE DEFENSE WEAPON< P>Despite good intentions of the research team, namely, control of population growth worldwide, Washington´s aim was to transform Forcyte´s Formula Nine into the making of a new strategic bloodless bomb. This bomb would be different from all other weapons in U.S. arsenals.

Now that Communism and the Soviet Union ceased to pose a threat to the Free World, the global political and military balance must be maintained via other means. Rather than affect mass killings of enemy forces, it´d be used to sterilize regions painlessly, thus prevent population explosions in zones deemed risky to national security, world economy and stability.

DANGEROUS COMPLICATIONS

Due to either negligence, tempering or deliberate sobatage, the project was in jeopardy. Chemical changes, result of temperature variations and other reasons, produced undesirable results. Rather than sterilization, it kindled a fervor for violence in the volunteer population, putting at risk the project and the security of the staff as well.

THE DANGER OF GOOD INTENTIONS

Following series of clashes between the staff and the volunteers, the reasons for the malfunctions were finally detected and analyzed. The problem now fully understood could be easily rectified in future tests, if approved. Still, the chemical reaction due to unforseen changes in the formula, produced the possibility of extreme opposites of what was initially intended.

When the news hit Washington, the President decided to keep the project a secret. namely, anything affiliated with it would be classified for an undetermined length of time. Keeping the experimental colony a secret was a top priority, but how long could a cover-up stay secret? .

The lesson, as some participants believed to be true, didn´t change: don´t fool around with mother nature. This time the dangers were disarmed and all is well. Next time, no one can predict the extent and magnitute of the consequences. Caution must be the guide.

One thing for sure: good intentions don´t always produce good results.
