About the Book
“There is a first time for everything.” A wise man once said, I think it may have been Aristotle or was it Confucius! Or maybe it was Ed Norton (The Honeymooners) when he emerged from the sewer for his first time. Anyway, I am one who also believes “there is a first time for everything” so here is my accounting of Betsy and my “first time.” Naw, not THAT first time but rather our first time we traveled to Europe way back in the good old days of 1971.Wow! has it been that long? Yeah, I guess it has.
If I remember correctly, in Mark Twain’s recollection of his past, one of his statements goes something like this. “ Yes I still have a keen memory, I can remember everything that happened as if it was yesterday, and I might add, I can remember a lot things that didn’t happen!! Well, I remember pretty well our first trip to Europe, especially with the aid of Betsy’s travel diary, our scrap books and my collection of slides that I will use as reference. I will try to remember and relate only that what happened on our first time. Please keep in mind that this endeavor is not meant to be a tour book or travel guide book rather, an accounting of Betsy’s and my first trip to Europe, to the Lands of Castles, Kings, and Medieval Things.
