Peter Cukor: Before the Silver Cord Snapped
Peter Cukor was born into a Jewish family in rural Hungary in 1936. In his early years he was directly involved in the tumultuous events of the mid-20th Century: Nazi persecution of the Jews, Communist oppression and liberation during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.
The author came to the United States as a refugee but became Americanized rapidly. Most of his friends and the younger members of his family are unfamiliar with the difficult experiences of his early years. “Before the Silver Cord is Snapped” is a memoir consisting of a string chronologically arranged vignettes assembled by the author for the enlightenment and edification of his family, friends and all those interested in the history of the Holocaust.
About the Author
Peter Cukor was born in Hungary in 1936. At the age of seven he and his mother were incarcerated in a ghetto and deported to Nazi work camps in Austria. After liberation the family returned to Hungary and was caught in a Communist dictatorship. During 1956 Hungarian Revolution the Cukors escaped and settled in the United States. Peter received a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering degree, a Ph.D. in Chemistry and a Master’s degree in Technology Policy. He worked in high-technology industry for 30 years as a research scientist, manager and director; published 70 papers and obtained six patents. Subsequently Cukor has ran his own consulting business and also been an Adjunct Professor at Tufts University and the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He is married to Adele, they have three grown sons and so far two grandchildren.
