About the Author

I was born and raised in San Francisco’s Chinatown during the Roaring Twenties, where races and cultures of the East and West meet, blend and shape America and my life. Growing up in the Ike Generation, I saw tremendous changes - - from WWII to war with Iraq; from hand-cranked telephones to iPhones; from abacus to computer; from horse travel to space travel. In childhood, I have shelled shrimp and delivered newspapers. Other jobs followed as fruit picker, ship-fitters’ helper and service in the army. Eventually I completed my education on the GI bill and worked as an organic chemist for over three decades. In retirement I have followed painting and writing as a hobbies. I now try to write down some of my experiences, for my children, and for others. My family and I have seen elephants marching by our new house. I have stood with roaring multitudes of Parisians cheering General Eisenhower for freeing them from the Nazis. What other adventures have I had? Turn these pages and read on.
