About the Book

September 11, 2001: A Day in History is designed to provide children ages 7-14 with a sensitive, but factual, account of what occurred on a defining day in our history. Written in plain language with soft illustrations, the book describes the sequence of events as they unfolded from a perspective to which school age children can relate. The book does not speculate as to causes of the shocking acts of September 11 and recognizes that closure may be long in coming. Instead, it enables children and their parents to understand how America changed at home and how our role in the world was forever altered.

About the Author

Evelyn B. Block, author, is a developmental psychologist and a native New Yorker. She has had over 25 years of experience as an educator at the elementary and university levels, as a child and family therapist, as a consultant to corporations on work and family issues and as a parent. She is a published author; her publications include a book chapter on technology and education in Teaching the Learning Disabled, A Cognitive Developmental Approach, articles on balancing work and family life in ASBA Today, the American small business association magazine, and articles entitled Managing the ADHD Child,” and “Stress and the Executive Family” in the Parent Paper. Struck by the historical and psychological impact of the events of September 11, 2001, this is her first book directed at a young audience. Leslie Adler, illustrator, has been designing and illustrating for more than 20 years. She has worked as a technical illustrator at Cahners Publishing, as Design Director for Towers Perrin Consulting, and as Creative Director for a retail division of Myron Manufacturing in New Jersey. Currently, Leslie is the owner of Aloha Design, specializing in design illustration and promotional work. Leslie has won awards from the New York and New Jersey Art Directors associations. Inspiration for her artwork often comes from her children. The impact of the events of September 11, 2001 on Evelyn’s son Nick, and his best friend, Leslie’s son Lucas both second graders at the time, was instrumental in generating the book.
