About the Author

Following graduation from medical school in 1939, S.A. Horwitz moved to New York City to start his postgraduate education and begin writing this account. From October 1942 to January 1946 his training was interrupted by service in the Army Air Corps. In June 1946 while back into his postgraduate work he got married and ended his diaries. The photo was taken in March 1946.
