About the Book

Jeremy, an inexperienced angel, insists on an assignment his superiors worry he isn't ready for yet. His challenge-a church in a small New England town. The church offers Jeremy little warmth as he walks into their midweek prayer meeting, a stranger in their midst. It isn't long before he is able to see beyond the depths of their unsuspecting eyes pain, betrayal, love, fear, indecision, addiction, adultery-problems and actions so overwhelming Jeremy is momentarily forced to turn his eyes from the painful onslaught. He wonders if he has bitten off more than he can chew. Upon becoming acquainted with Rev .John Trent, our imperfect angel discovers the minister has a drinking problem exacerbated by his extreme loneliness and dwindling faith. He must come up with a solution, and soon, to help this leader lead his flock. We follow Jeremy through his first initial encounter with Millie, a pretty redhead with two small girls and her secret-Brian, a son born out of wedlock and what affect it is having on her life. He draws close to her, helping more than she realizes. Unsure of himself, Jeremy deals with the indiscretions of Nathaniel, the domineering head deacon; Millie's painful past; Rev. John's destructive self esteem; and the emotional and physical turmoil of other members of the congregation as best he can. Although mired in self-doubt, he vainly fumbles his way through, albeit slowly. Joshua, a large golden dog who befriends the angel, brings much needed companionship and a faithful devotion to Jeremy's overwhelming task. The dog can always be seen by Jeremy's side and slowly the small town comes to accept the kindly pair. When to Jeremy's horror he discovers a horrendous situation orchestrated by Nathaniel's teenaged son, he almost concedes to defeat. How did he miss that? Not been able to avert it? Perhaps they were right-he isn't ready for this. The angel begins to make inroads into solving their problems and preventing more calamities. Almost. Eventually the church family rally around each other and their minister. As Jeremy departs the small town he glances over his shoulder at the now whole and healed church, happy voices bursting through the confines of closed doors and stained glass windows. A smile spreads across the face of the now perfect angel as he turns away, Joshua beside him, and seeks his next assignment.
