About the Book

Grandma’s Fairy Tale Museum is a delightful book of poems that takes the reader through different rooms of artifacts throughout the “museum” from favorite fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Snow White, Rapunzel, The Ugly Duckling, Frog Princess, The Three Pigs, Rumpelstiltskin, The Emperor´s New Clothes, The Princess and the Pea, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Bears. These stories will be lost to twenty first century children if parents and grandparents don’t continue to read them. The idea for the book came about after teaching a group of 2nd and 4th graders in Evanston, Illinois, a unit on fairy tales. As a culminating activity, the children were asked to find an object at home that they could pretend was something used in a fairy tale which they placed in the classroom museum. The museum grew at an amazingly rapid pace. The activity was a success and it became apparent how much the children enjoyed the new spin on the use of fairytales. This book is designed to enhance children’s interest in reading fairy tales and encourage mothers and grandmothers to read more to their children.

About the Author

Arlene Avery Burke Arlene Avery Burke, born in Evanston, Illinois, holds a Bachelor degree in elementary and special education from Northern Illinois University and a Masters degree in Learning Disabilities and Educational Administration. Ms. Burke was an educator in Illinois and Georgia for seventeen years working also as a consultant and supervisor. In 1987 she continued her career for another eighteen years as a Senior Client Representative and Educational Consultant in the IBM Midwestern Education Industry Unit from which she retired in 2005. She as published one book, a baby boomer memoir called Nothin’ Like I Thought…A Baby Boomer’s Look in the Rear View Mirror and plans to publish a second, an adult fiction novel called Quid Pro Quo. Ms. Burke also has short story, “Who Let the Dogs Out” published, August 2007, in Chicken Soup for the Child’s Soul. Phyllis McAllister Hamilton Phyllis McAllister Hamilton, born in Evanston, Illinois, hold a Bachelor degree in education from Tennessee State University and a Master’s degree in education with a minor in reading from National Louis University. Ms. Hamilton taught in the primary grades in Evanston School District #65 for thirty four years. Her personal goal was to bring literature alive to children. Grandma’s Fairy Tale Museum is her first published work. Ms. Hamilton is now retired and resides in Franklin, Tennessee where in addition to writing she enjoys knitting, gardening and traveling.
