About the Author
William Brinker studied at the University of Michigan and at Indiana University. His began teaching at the high school level, then at a small liberal arts college, and finally at Tennessee Technological University where he is emeritus faculty in the History Department. Most recently in a long career, he taught classes in East Asian History. In 1988, a month-long academic visit to the three countries of the former French Indo-China heightened his interest in Vietnam. At the time of the tour, the United States and Vietnam maintained neither diplomatic nor economic relations, making the experience extraordinary. Back home his teaching about America=s Vietnam war led to interviews with veterans. They, in turn, led to the interviews forming this book.
