After duty in Vietnam, Paul Hirschmann of Jackson, Michigan, returns to college for his law degree. He marries his college sweetheart, Sheilah Goodman of Lake City, Wisconsin, where for three years she has been an anthropologist. An outing to relieve the tedium of mothering two small children results in an accident. Paul moves his family to Lake City where he meets Lee Heider, secretary, in the District Attorney´s Office. Lee has divorced her philandering husband. When Judge Masterson makes sexual advances toward her, Lee confides in Paul.


About the Author

Lucy Larson, born and educated in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, attended Spencerian College, Milwaukee. After graduating from the Institute of Children's Literature, Redding Ridge, Connecticut, she studied creative writing at Milwaukee Area Technical College and attended workshops at Alverno College, Milwaukee. Her work has been published in Good Old Days, Fireside Companion, Cappers, The Advocate, a literary magazine, as well as local and regional publications. A Better Woman is Larson's second novel, the first being National Avenue, Of Prohibition and Politics. She has five grown children and, for fourteen years, was employed as a law stenographer in the Milwaukee County District Attorney's office.
