About the Book
ADVENTURE IN LIVING: Tales From A Pastor’s Treasure Chest is an entertaining and insightful collection of short stories. They cover a wide range of human emotions and experiences—some joyous, some sad, some naughty, some laughable, some mystical and some portraying a form of greed, which lurks slightly beyond the consciences of a large number of supposedly righteous human beings. The tales are entitled “Stretching A Chicken By Prayer,” “Lifting The Burden Of Color Psychosis,” “The Rotten Fruit Of Greed,” “Voices From An Untraveled Country,” “Wait Pastor! Let Me Show You Baby Jesus,” “The Salvation Club: A Tale Within A Tale,” “The Bladder Dance,” “Human Behavior, Politics And The Consequences,” “Father Confessor To An Odd Couple,” “Tomorrow May Be Too Late,” and “Let’s Get It On Pastor! You Look Good To Me!” Although these tales were created and are told by a clergyman, they are not preachy. They contain reflections, insights and wisdom useful in the creative living of your days in the adventure of human existence. “Stretching A Chicken By Prayer,” deals with a young man who considered religion a joke and used it to deceive people and have fun with his young friends. He considered many of the devout persons whom he deceived to be hypocrites; however, he failed to recognize that his behavior was just as hypocritical as theirs. In early adulthood he abandoned his religious faith entirely and drank deeply of life’s pleasures. In the midst of his lustful feast, tragedy struck. The young man lost his way and began to spin downward, out of control. In the nadir of his desperation and degradation, the young deceiver learned that just as a chicken wing can be stretched by prayer, he could avert his apparent fate and fashion a new and healthier life style for himself. “Lifting The Burden Of Color Psychosis,” pertains to the destructive aspects of skin color in America and Europe. A talented, sane young man shares his painful encounters with prejudical views of skin color. During his life’s journey he reaches a point of explosion in an incidental encounter with a little child, but through the same small tot, he finds a beautiful moment of liberation. “The Salvation Club: A Tale Within A Tale,” is an allegory dealing with the frailty of human beings in their turbulent pilgrimage through this life. The tale lays out the best process for us to creatively make our way. It is a simple way, but perhaps too difficult for most people to give it a diligent effort. “Let’s Get It On, Pastor! You Look Good To Me,” is a tale about a highly virtuous minister who is vigorously pursued by a sexy, love-starved widow. She views him as the man to satisfy her needs. Should he say yes, or should he resort to trickery to avoid her clutches? Read it and find out what happens! The remaining stories are just as interesting, exciting, meaningful and insightful as the ones described above. Try them and you’ll find satisfaction from your read.
