About the Book

The book, “Invisible Mathematics”, examines chronological periods in history and how African Americans experienced Mathematics from slavery through the Information Age. Evidence within each period details how mathematics has profoundly affected the progress of African Americans. From their position as slaves to the representation of African Americans as 3/5th a human; to their liberation, right to read, right to vote, and right to fight in the armed services. From their migration from the south to the north, from inner city to suburbia, from blue collar labor to white collar, from business employee to business owner. This book brings into perspective the need for African Americans to embrace mathematics as never before.

About the Author

Dr. Esther M. Pearson has worked in ministry for over 20 years. She has completed a doctorate in Education from the University of Massachusetts, a doctorate in Biblical Studies from Masters International Divinity School, and a Master of Arts in Urban Ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary –Center for Urban Ministry Education. Dr. Pearson’s roles in ministry have included Women’s Ministry, Teaching Ministry, and Para-church Outreach programs. She has taught at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary –Boston Campus, at Denominational Conferences, and Church Biblical Studies programs. Tiffini N. Callion has worked in various leadership capacities within the church to include Women’s Ministry, Bible Study Teacher, and Church Administration. Having grown up in the church she has participated in national Christian youth and young adult conferences. She has varied experience and exposures to the Baptist, Catholic, and Seven Day Adventist religions. She has completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. She has worked in both private industry and academia in various research capacities. She has received certificates and other demonstrations of advanced biblical studies. In 2009 she received the Women’s Ministry Annual Service Award for contributions to the Christian growth of both youth and adults.
