About the Author

The author, Elizabeth Jackson Allen, is a veteran of public, independent, and charter schools. In the public school arena, she was a teacher in grades 1,2,3,4,5 and 6. She also served in the roles of support teacher, resource teacher and administrative trainee. In addition, Ms. Allen worked in two of the top Independent schools in the country as a language arts specialist, a diversity coordinator and as the division head of the largest division of the Langley School in McLean, Virginia. She was also the principal of an elementary-middle Charter School in Baltimore, Md. Her current position, one in which she has had five years of experience is that of a mentor to new teachers who work in the Baltimore City Public School system… Ms. Allen has two grown children, Dr. Marcus Allen and Ms. Leslie K. Allen. She has traveled extensively and is now looking forward to retiring to a life of ‘play”….having the time to do whatever she wants to do.
