About the Author Prof. Oladele O. Arowolo e-mail: oladele68@yahoo.com Prof. Arowolo graduated from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, with a major in geography (minor in sociology and economics) in 1968. He obtained his masters (1971) and PhD (1973) in demography from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA. He taught in several universities in the US: Rutgers University, Camden, NJ; Temple University, Philadelphia, PA; in Nigeria: University of Ibadan, University of Ife, and Lagos State University, where he was appointed professor of sociology and served as head of Department of Social Sciences and dean of the Faculty of Law and Humanities (1984–1988) and in Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. He worked with the United Nations International Labour Organization, Geneva, as Chief Technical Adviser to UNFPA-funded country projects on population policy formulation and on program development in Ethiopia; Kenya; and Namibia (1988–1999). Thereafter, he served as consultant to UNFPA, UNDP, FAO, UNECA, the World Bank, etc., on population and development projects in Namibia, Mozambique, Botswana, Malawi, Swaziland, Ethiopia, Liberia, Malawi, Lesotho, Uganda, South Africa, Sudan, Syria, etc. His main areas of concentration as university teacher, researcher, and population professional are population dynamics, population policies and programming, population and development integration, program monitoring, and evaluation. He has published books and contributed to chapters in books and produced numerous academic papers published in international journals.
