With Firm Hearts tells the story of Canadians at the outset of the First World War. By taping into historic people and events the story follows the struggle to create and train an army culminating at their baptism of fire in the spring of 1915. Taut prose drives the story encompassing not only the strategy and operations of the war, but also the fears, desires and sentiments of the stories characters. Relying heavily on historical literature, the author has taken fact and orchestrated a dramatic, captivating account. Like the image in a painting or an old photo being brought to life, an enthralling story of the First World War and Canada’s part has resulted.

About the Author

William Hay is an award winning short story writer. With Firm Hearts is his second full length novel. His first, The Originals, is about the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry during World War One.
