About the Book
This book describes the profound insights on life itself that this traumatic yet positive life changing experience had on Grandpa John; a realization that we are mere mortals living a life of immortality; and a realization that life needs a reckoning of those important things that we know but that we don’t really understand because we have never personalized them. Each profound and insightful chapter is dedicated to a specific life topic. As Goethe put it “All truly wise thoughts have been thought already thousands of times, but to make them truly ours, we must think them over again honestly, until they take root in our personal experience.”
About the Author
John Kalenberg is a husband, father, grandfather, and retired business executive. Grandpa John is a lifelong resident of Minnesota, was born and raised in the small rural town of Stewart, Minnesota, graduated from Mankato State University and went on to a successful thirty-one year career in business in Minneapolis. Family activities are most important and he also enjoys the outdoors, The Farm, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and softball and is an avid professional and college sports fan. Life couldn’t get any better until an annual physical discovered colon cancer. A cancerous tumor had gone through his colon wall and when he went under the surgeon’s knife the chasm between good news and bad news was wide; to say it was a matter of life and death would not be an exaggeration.
