Derrick stopped then, still not aware of where they had brought themselves. He moaned with anticipation, taking hold of her smooth chin with his thumb and forefinger and bringing his impatient lips softly down on her mouth. Rose groaned, throwing her arms around his waist. She pulled him roughly against her before crying out in pain. She then pushed him. Rose turned away from Derrick as she tried her hardest to stop the tears from falling. Derrick panted, overwhelmed with emotions. He stared at the gravelled ground for what felt like a long time, trying to compose himself before he looked up. Rose’s back faced him, and she seemed to be trembling, her fingers tightly around her upper arms. “Why are you doing this?” Derrick asked her, still out of breath. “I can’t handle another rejection from you, Rose. I won’t,” he continued, his voice strained, his fists tightening with fear. Rose slowly turned around. Her heart was in her throat. She stared at him and could see clearly through his dark eyes that he was suffering—suffering because of her—and she suddenly hated herself. “I am so sorry Derrick, I truly—” Rose started to say shuddering, her eyes wet with pain. “No, Rose!” Derrick said, cutting her off. “I don’t want to hear that you’re sorry!” He was frustrated. Her words tormented him, bringing him back to a time in his past he never wanted to remember—the time when Rose had crushed his heart. “Derrick,” Rose cried, overcome with fear. She turned to leave, unable to handle the torture she saw in his eyes. She didn’t want to lead him on, to let him think that her being there with him meant there was hope. Derrick grabbed onto her arm and pulled her back. “Don’t you dare leave me like this! How dare you leave me to suffer all these dreadful months without an explanation! And now you’re going to run off and leave me again. No! This time I won’t let you. Tell me, Rose! Why! Why did you do it? Why have you done this to me?” Derrick beseeched her, exasperated and shocked that she was just going to leave him like that again.

About the Author
Lydia and Santina Casablanca are twin sisters who grew up in Australia, moving around all the time and never staying in one place for more then three years. Their parents split up when they were seven, causing a painful drift within their family. Lydia and Santina didn’t live with their father, and their mother was always working, and most of the time didn’t have the time to give their daughters the love they needed. So they sought elsewhere, through watching romances on TV and listening to love songs on the radio. They loved, and still love watching romances and listening to music. When they reached the age of 12, life was tough and they needed a way to escape the nightmares they sometimes had to face. And that’s when they discovered the world of writing. A world where they could express their emotions by putting it down on paper, where they could get away from the stresses of their own life. They fell in love with writing songs, and then scripts and then they found their true love. Their love of writing novels. Lydia and Santina are now 23 years old and are living on the central coast in NSW Australia where they are working on their second novel together, which is currently set to have three books, which will be a continuous to their first novel, The Dawsons.
