Good Intentions
The bane of good intentions
Is life’s demands
We start out with
Many a good intention
But
Life intervenes
Love intervenes
Duty intervenes
Faith intervenes
Family intervenes
And
All our good intentions
Wither and die
In their place of conception
You ask
Why,
How can things intervene?
The answer my friend
Is
Short, simple and succinct
The answer my friend
Is only this:
Life intervenes
With its innumerable, unending
Demands
Love intervenes
With its selfish, self-centred
Requests
Duty intervenes
With its insidious, multifarious
Expectations
Faith intervenes
With its obsessive, compulsive
Do’s and don’ts
Views on sin and salvation.
And then at the end of the day
All or most of our
Good intentions
Dissipate, melt, disappear…
Into the
I could have….
I should have…
I would have…
Or lie
Broken, crumbled, discarded
Like
The dead leaves of yesteryear
That no one wants.
And so
Good intentions wait
And wait
For the next round
To be fulfilled.

About the Book
Nostalgia is volume 3 of a trilogy. The previous two volumes are THE SANDS OF TIME and THE CHALICE.
These three volumes of poetry are about love, philosophy, war, betrayal, and natural disasters and have a religious theme.
The poems are meant to convey home truths and are meant to be enjoyed. They are often very powerful, but some are very whimsical too.
They are also meant to offer comfort because every negative situation is a learning curve. It is up to us to take the positives from it.
About the Author
Sophia Z Kovachevich is and has been at different times, a lecturer, a teacher, a lay preacher, a peace activist, a counselor, a playwright and a poet.
She has a Master degree in English Literature and Language; and a Master Degree in English Linguistics. Sophia Z Kovachevich aka Ashley Smith also has an incomplete PhD degree spanning the disciplines of Literature, Linguistics, Theology and Ecology. She also has numerous Bachelors’ degrees, Advanced Diplomas, Diplomas and certificates in various subjects.
She has lived in 17 countries in 5 continents. She is widely travelled and has been to at least 50 countries around the world.
Sophia speaks 8 languages in varying degrees of fluency.
She loves animals and believes justice and fair-play for all irrespective of race, religion, colour or creed and in always fighting for the underdog.
