About the Book
Briggsy, the tuba, is one of the instruments in Miss Poppy’s music class. He’s often bullied and teased by the other instruments because they think he’s too big and too loud. Their antics make him unhappy, but he tries hard not to show it. When he’s not chosen to play in Miss Poppy’s classroom band, he begins to doubt himself, and wonders if what they say about him is true. Then one day something happens in music class, surprising everyone, even the instrument bullies. What does it mean for Briggsy? Will he at last feel like he belongs?
About the Author
Briggsy’s Time To Shine is Linda McKinley’s first children’s book. As a music major at college with a master’s degree in education, she always wanted to be a teacher. Her inspiration for this book comes from many years teaching Kindergarten and pre K music. The instruments in Miss Linda’s music classes may lack the personality and sophistication of Miss Poppy’s, but her music classes always looked forward to playing their favorite instruments and making happy music together. The author’s interests include playing the piano, reading, college football, (especially USC football), going to the beach, and most of all, being with family and friends. She and her husband currently reside in Tennessee.
