About the Author
Luellen Fletcher enjoyed being part of the undergraduate writers’ workshop at the University of Iowa, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1979 with a BA in English. A Sloan Scholarship recipient, she studied Modern British Poetry at Lincoln College, Oxford, England, and completed an MFA in creative writing in 1986 from the University of Arizona in Tucson. She and poet-colleague Will Jennings coordinated Potlatch, a free city-wide art festival in Iowa City, spring 1978, taking inspiration from the Oregon Country Fair. Fletcher was part of the Tucson Poetry Festival OC for four years, and Festival Co-Director in 1994. She also helped incorporate poetry and small press events into the Rocky Mountain Book Festival, collaborating with writers from Denver’s coffeehouse circuit. Fletcher has worked at the University of Pennsylvania in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine since 1999, currently serving as Associate Director for the Path BioResource, a consortium of shared resources that provide biomedical technology and expertise to researchers. She chairs Penn and Pencil Club, sponsored by Penn’s Kelly Writers House for faculty and staff writers. Before moving to Philadelphia, she taught composition and literature to community college students. She currently is a JEVS volunteer tutor for SNHU students.
