The Arctic howled! Thunder cracked! Lightning flashed! The waves in the ocean smashed against each other. The storm whipped across the fjords of the country of Norway. Fish darted everywhere looking for safety. Young Olaf and his pod-family needed to escape. Olaf’s father, the leader of the pod, called to the whales to find shelter. Together all the whales sounded…down, down, down to the ocean floor. There were so many things to see down there: undersea volcanoes, trenches, very strange sea creatures and lots of big rocks and cliffs. The boulder that Olaf hid behind stood guard like a soldier, keeping the storm far from him. It was calm there, and Olaf felt secure. …Time passed…Olaf fell asleep. Sometime later, Olaf awoke with a start. Something was wrong. “Where am I?” Olaf asked himself. He quickly swam out from his hiding place. “Papa, where are you?” There was no answer. Olaf looked and looked and looked. He listened and listened. He could not find his pod anywhere. He shivered with fear. “I am all alone!” he cried.

About the Book
A young Orca whale, separated from his pod in a storm, loses and seeks to find his papa, but instead finds a wonderful substitute, mentor, and friend. This is a story of a little whale’s journey through loss, love, and final joy in new adventures and discoveries in unexpected places with an unexpected companion.
About the Author
Alice Baldwin was a teacher for 40+ years. She has taught students from Kindergarten to Adult Education in many genres, even teaching online classes. Alice has been published in “Who’s Who in American Poetry,” but this is her first endeavor as an author in children’s books. Children have a very special place in her heart and she is a firm believer in the value of reading to them and teaching them to read for themselves.
