About the Book

Brilliant, Beautiful, Bipolar is an autobiographical account of former physician Liz Casper’s diagnosis of and treatment for bipolar disorder. In this first book, Casper chronicles her unique experience as her world fell apart while trying to start a new life for herself in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Buoyed by the endless future opportunities and possibilities, combined with her limitless energy, Casper was unaware there was a far more sinister side to her life that would soon surface. Through her gut-wrenching and honest account of her life, Casper gives us an unusual insight into the mind of an actively manic, albeit brilliant mind; and the devastation that can occur along the way. As is common, Casper rejected the diagnosis until it became too great to ignore, her losses too deep, her pain too great to continue. This fast-paced story will leave you with jaw-dropping moments, brutally honest storytelling, and ultimate inspiration for anyone experiencing a mental health crisis. Casper’s account gives deep insight and hope to anyone suffering from any medical illness. Her book - filled with contemporary relevance - will leave you wanting more of her life stories; more of her revealing and highly entertaining prose; and more of her much-needed, sage advice.

About the Author

Liz Casper is a former medical doctor, artist, and author from the Pacific Northwest. In her first book, BRILLIANT, BEAUTIFUL, BIPOLAR, Liz shares with us her personal journey before, during, and after her diagnosis of bipolar disorder. The book, set in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, chronicles Liz’s experience both living with and healing from this devastating diagnosis. As a former 4th generation physician, Liz cared for innumerable patients in her career with mental health diagnoses, but it wasn’t until she was diagnosed herself that she truly understood what the mental health patient actually experiences, both in their own lives, and in society in general. Through her captivating storytelling, Liz allows us a rare glimpse into the fascinating world of bipolar disorder and the experiences one has when living through this kind of illness. Always entertaining, and highly educational, BRILLIANT, BEAUTIFUL, BIPOLAR takes us on a rare voyage inside the mind of the manic, bipolar patient. Casper believes it is time to reconsider the term “mental illness” and get rid of the artificial delineation between medical and mental health. It is estimated that 50% of all Americans will be given a mental health diagnosis in their lifetime. Casper believes that how we regard these illnesses; how we care for the ill; and how we deliver mental healthcare needs to change in order to achieve optimal outcomes for all.
