About the Book
Events for this story take place on a cattle ranch in southern North Dakota. The main characters are Bryan, his son Trypp, Stacy, her daughter Grace, and Grandpa Gary who has a new farm problem for which he needs some help. He has observed a friendly fox standing on a nearby rock pile looking for chickens to steal. That sly fox has gotten quite a few of them, so it’s time to stop him. Other characters in the story are Finley, Stacy’s dachshund, Sophie (the ranch protector) who is a Great Pyrenees dog, and Trypp’s cat Remi. The kids have a plan to save the chickens but have to convince Grandpa of the plan. Bryan, Grace and Trypp build a fence for the chickens, and then have fun playing basketball, looking for kittens and playing on the bale stacks. There’s a rescue mission after Trypp falls through a hole in the bale stacks, but all ends well as no one is hurt and the kids and animals have a great time while at the ranch. What about the fox? Well, he hasn’t gotten any more chickens, but he’s still around and spends time on his rock pile watching the activities at the ranch. He’s not only sly but also social, as he shows up and will try to play with some of the other animals.
