There's a Girebra in the Forest

The forest was very quiet until the silence was disrupted by the soft flapping of the wings of a hornbill that landed on a large branch that hung over the pile of leaves in which the tiny creature was hidden. The little animal was frightened by the surprise visitor. The hornbill said, “well! What do we have here here?” The little raised his head so the light of the sun revealed the head of the tiny creature. “Oh, a baby giraffe,” said the hornbill. “What is your name name?” he quizzed. In a soft timid voice, the creature said “Obi” The hornbill laughed as he flew to another branch. “Obi Obi,” the hornbill chuckled. “What a funny name for a giraffe giraffe,” he squawked. The sun had moved higher in the sky and revealed more of the tiny baby’s body. “Goodness gracious gracious” the hornbill gasped as he sat on his perch looking down on the little Obi’s front and back legs. “What is this, a zebra zebra?” Litle Obi looked confused.

About the Book
This book is about a small woodland creature on a journey of self-acceptance and understanding. Through his whimsical interactions with other woodland animals, the main character is able to not only discover who he is but also inspires others to be more empathetic. The journey is filled with danger, but he remains committed to complete his mission and honor his truth.
About the Author
Despite moving frequently throughout childhood and his teen years and coming from a disadvantaged environment, Mike was inspired to write by his mother who often related stories of growing up in foster care during the Great Depression. Mike honed his craft of creative writing during his public school days and continued to be motivated by the praise he received from his teachers. Although he took a short break from formal education to start a family, through the requirements of his brief stint as a minister he continued to hone his craft by writing sermons weekly. After retiring and upon becoming a grandfather, Mike recognized the importance of children’s books, reflected on the stories he told his own children, and was then motivated to write some of his own books for children.
