About the Book

The Price of Treason is a story of love, courage, and survival, set against the historical context of the Cuban Revolution. It captures the upheaval and transformation of the Cuban society during the first fifty years of the Revolution. It also provides a detailed account of its impact on a family and their struggles to cope with the changing political landscape in the country. The story also highlights the internal conflict and moral dilemma faced by individuals who must choose between personal relationships and their loyalty to the regime. Overall, The Price of Treason is not only an engaging read, but a vivid glimpse at the challenges faced by the Cuban people. It is a compelling narrative that raises thought-provoking questions about the nature of power, loyalty, and personal freedom.

About the Author

A native of Camagüey, Cuba, Alicia Barton always dreamed of being an opera singer. However, her dream was truncated when the Cuban Revolution took power in 1959. Like thousands of Cuban citizens, she and her family went into exile to start a new life from scratch. Upon retirement from the banking industry, where she worked as secretary and translator, she decided to write an eyewitness account of the rigors and deprivation of living under a repressive political regime. The Price of Treason is the result of that effort. Mrs. Barton lives in Miami with her son and two grandchildren.
