About the Book
Sam Lord, King of hearts is based on an actual person, who lived on Barbados in the late 1700s and early 1800s. The walls of Sam Lord’s Castle, a tourist attraction on Barbados, are covered with life-sized paintings of beautiful women. Why, other than his having been a real ladies’ man, would he have such a gallery of women in his home? Thus, Sam Lord, King of Hearts was inspired.
Sent to Barbados as an indentured servant, Sam had no intention of being anyone’s slave. And, indeed, in my account, he is anything but a slave. That is, in the normal sense of the word. But, he is a slave to his burning desire to not only become wealthy and powerful, but to know many women intimately.
Surviving many challenges to his dreams, in the end, even though a rascal, Sam becomes a rascal we can all love.
