About the Book

ONE STRANGE PRACTICE by John R. Judge, M.D. is a book of narrative stories, all based on thinly disguised, actual medical occurrences within a modern hospital, as seen through the eyes of a street-smart Emergency Medical Technician. The narrator is an ex-Navy Corpman in VietNam who becomes acquainted with a Navy doctor during that war and subsequently comes to be employed in the Ohio hospital where that physician now practices in civilian life, after a few minor legal misadventures in California.

The E.M.T narrator, who actually is a composite of several people in real life, depicts the adventures of his physician mentor, who also represents a composite of several real-life physicians, in the intriguing and sometimes strange occurrences in modern American medical care. Each chapter represents a particular event that actually happened or an issue which has had an on-going effect on the delivery of healthcare and the interaction of doctors and their patients.

The author draws on his personal background and experiences of 35 years of medical practice, including a stint as a Navy physician during the VietNam era, to create a physician main character and his Boswell, in the form of an outwardly tough but very sharp and observant young Emergency Technician.

The stories are conveyed to show specific points which have had an effect on all healthcare, the public and physicians collectively, as well as issues still evolving, which will have a definite impact on all of us.
