Journey Without End is about the lessons you learn when ‘home’ has in turn been France in the politically charged 1970’s, Korea in the boom of the 1980’s Olympic development, and Hong Kong on the eve of its reunification with China. It is about an Alabaman country boy let loose on the world’s great civilizations, trying to apply the lessons of his cotton-brokering upbringing to a world of silk dragons and European chateaus. It is about how friendships made in the crucible of tiny ex-patriot environments can withstand the erosion of decades. Most of all, it is about the struggle to define a family in the constant dislocation of international living.

About the Author

Throughout his career as an executive of the International Business Machines Corporation, John H. Bishop and his family were given glimpses into the cultures and customs of over 60 countries. John dealt with challenges such as penetrating the business cultures of the Orient, handling death threats from the Red Brigade in Paris, and the most challenging of all, raising a family in one of the most ‘interesting’ time periods of the twentieth-century. Their journey is defined here as a quarter of a century, but it is a timeless study of life around the world at the end of the twentieth century.
