About the Book

This book is designed to help teachers, parents, and students understand and navigate their way intelligently through the ideas, concepts, procedures and programs that are implemented in the education of children and adults with severe disabilities. Special education, vocational, social and physical rehabilitation, are attended by many different disciplines, each with its own vocabulary and viewpoints. Parents, teachers and caregivers are confused by these disparate languages which are also frequently ambiguous. It grew out of notes that were distributed to my students. Items such as autism or dyslexia encountered in readings often gave different, and occasionally conflicting information.
