When Tori discovers the friendly playful manatees in the river outside her home, she falls in love with them. They’re awesome. They are said to be the only creatures on earth that have no natural enemies! But she sees scars on many of the gentle, slow-moving mammals. What is harming them? Why are they on the endangered species list? Why are they getting hurt? What can she and her friends do to help them?
About the Author
Elizabeth McEldowney Conard grew up in India at a time when tigers roamed near her home in the jungle and school in the Himalayan mountains. She heard many stories of olden day hunts and today is happy that “Save the Tiger” is a national effort. She attended college in the United States and has taught in middle schools and high schools. Elizabeth chose to live in Florida where she and her husband have raised three children. Now she tells her grandchildren stories of the days when she rode elephants to see numerous Indian animals in the wild.
