About the Book

Who Taught Caterpillars to Spin Cocoons? is the second picture book written by first grader, Jacob Wilkinson, and his grandfather Wallace Campbell, principal of Greeneview High School. Just as with the first book, Did You Ever Wonder An ABC Picture Book, the illustrator is a senior art student at Greeneview High School in Jamestown, Ohio. Her art teacher, Tim Ryan, recommended Kim Spiller for the project. The story line resulted from a game that Jacob played with his grandfather, while playing in Grandpa’s big backyard. In an attempt to get Jacob to see God in all of creation, his grandfather asked questions like, “Did you ever wonder who taught cats to meow and wolves to howl?” The answer to the questions was always, God Did. Having published his first book, Jacob wanted to write a book for his little brother Isaac James Wilkinson. Isaac is the boy pictured on the cover, the baby learning to crawl, and the boy at the end of the book. Isaac will enroll in kindergarten at Picadome Elementary School in Lexington, Kentucky in the fall. Kim Spiller plans to attend Wright State University and study art. I would also like to dedicate the book to Tim Ryan, Greeneview High School Art Teacher, for recommending Kim to illustrate the book.
