About the Author

Nellie A. O'Brien was born in a log cabin on a cattle ranch near Pinedale, Wyoming. She was the middle child of nine children born to Tom and Ada Brosman, who came to Wyoming in 1902. As an eighteen-year-old graduate of the University of Wyoming she came to teach school in the isolated Upper Green River Valley. Here she heard of or wotnessed many of the stories in this book. O'Brien was employed 25 years for the Missouri Division of Employment Security. She is now enjoying a second career as a free-lance writer. She and her husband John have three grown children, two daughters and a son.
