About the Author
The author was born in Hemet, California in 1936 and until she was eight years of age Joan experienced pristine woodlands, crystal lakes, white winters, iris-and-lupine colored Summers. Joan attended a one-room schoolhouse until the age of eight. Then with her parents and brother who was thirteen months younger then Joan. They moved to an apricot-and-walnut ranch that was adjacent to her grandparents’ house. Joan was born with cerebral palsy. Perhaps her handicap gave to her an acute sense of observation. Joan was lucky enough to live in a very structured but loosely encouraged environment and learned early in her life to maintain a balance of both worlds. Joan’s love of literature came early in her life when she wrote her first poem at the age of eight. The love of nature has always been an important part of Joan’s life. Her writing reflects that love.
