About the Book
This story is from letters about John's life aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Belleau Wood. They tell of the surrender of Japan and going there and about his love and marriage to a WAVE.
About the Author
Harriet Brugmann 1944 Although her legal name is Harriet, she has been going by her nickname, Holly, as her author and social name. She was born in Huntington Park, CA. She lived at home with her parents and one sister, Dorothy, until she joined the Navy in April 1943 as a WAVE (Women’s US Navy). It was her training in New York and Iowa that gave her the rating of Yeoman (secretary) third class and then she was promoted to second class. She met John when she was stationed at the Naval Operating Base in Long Beach, CA. Other works by the author include, Portrait of a Wave and Catalina Hideaway.
