About the Book
This book is the story of one man’s struggle against the machine, the machine that controls the destiny of every employee of the Department of Licenses and Inspections. The story is presented in six parts: The Early Years, The C&I Years, The District Years, The Travel Years, The Trouble Years, and the Final Years. This book will reveal some things you never knew about how the city treats its own. Some things may scare you, some will make you laugh, but overall I hope to make you think, after reading what I have to tell you about “My Life in the City”!
About the Author
William Walker was enrolled in college at an age when most children are just beginning high school, and he spent time working in various civil service positions with the City of Philadelphia and the U.S. Post Office, before joining the ranks of L&I. Nothing he encountered in life prior to 1969, the date he accepted employment with L&I, could possibly have prepared him for the extraordinary trials and tribulations he would experience over the next 33 years. Currently, Mr. Walker is working fulltime as a writer, having already published one book, “Walker Family History”, with more on the way.
