About the Book

On his 24th birthday, Wes Hardin kills his thirty-fourth man then drops from sight. His victim is a deputy sheriff and former Texas Ranger. Jack Duncan is the best detective in Texas. He goes undercover among Hardin's relatives to locate the outlaw. His mission is complicated when he falls in love with Sarah Grantham, a Hardin family member. Duncan must find a way to arrest Hardin and bring him to trial, while keeping him out of the hands of a series of would-be rescuers and lynch mobs. If he succeeds, there is a chance that Sarah will forgive him. If Hardin dies, Jack fears he will lose Sarah forever.

About the Author

Merle Cummins became fascinated with the Texas Rangers in the 1960s while working as a roust-about in the West Texas oil fields. There, his boss would break the boredom of 100-mile commutes with tales of Charlie Goodnight and Oliver Loving and other Texas legends. He now lives in San Jose California where he works as a college professor. He also has taught karate for more than thirty years. He finds many similarities between the “code the west,” as embodied by the Rangers, and the principles of Bushido, the code of the Samurai.
