About the Book

SUMMARY - Religions were created by humans from ancient myths. The spirituality, faith, and morality that are implicit in religions should have ennobled humans. Instead, throughout history, religion has been plagued by intolerance, persecutions, and wars that negated the benevolence contained in all religious doctrine. The problems besetting religion arise from fanaticism, lust for power, and dogmatism. These aspects of religion, as well as spirituality and the role of women, are discussed. The means for reforming religion are universal liberal education, religious democratization, improved communication among religions, and a renewal of spirituality. REVIEW by Tom Harpur, author of “The Pagan Christ" A COMPELLING CALL FOR RELIGIOUS REFORM, November 30, 2007 Max Swanson has given us an overall presentation of a complex subject in a concise and readable manner - saying that reform of religion is not only possible, it is essential to human peace and progress. This book is a well-balanced, eminently lucid call for all religions to return to their spiritual roots and thus become a relevant factor in the solving of current global problems instead of continuing as a major influence in fomenting them. There should be a copy of this book in every classroom in our schools.
