About the Book

“The clear, sweet notes of taps, played by our camp bugler, reached me above the distant rumble of thunder reverberating through the surrounding pine-covered hills and across the lake. Night had fallen. In the cabins our young charges were tucked safely into their bunks. That is, all but Damian Abbott. Where was he? During the twenty-four years since my husband, John, and I had founded Camp Cedarcliff, we’d called physicians, hospitals, local and county sheriffs, and the Poison Control Center on various emergencies. But, this was different. Damian was missing. He had to be found and brought back to camp before his father learned of his disappearance.”

About the Author

In 1956, Lorna Urquhart Trauth and her husband, Bill, founded their own summer camp for boys in Maine. After Bill’s death in 1971, she and their son Bill Jr., continued to operate the camp for the next twenty-five years. Since her retirement at the age of seventy-seven, she has pursued her lifelong interest in writing. Her memoirs, short stories, and essays have appeared in several anthologies and literary magazines. Damian, a collection of memoirs and short stories follows her first published book, Promises. The author was one of four children born to a distinguished Chilean mother and an adventurous and irresponsible Scottish father. Her memoirs include her mother’s childhood years growing up in Chile, the assassination of her father in Mexico, and the years spent at summer camps. Her short stories cover a wide range – humor, satire, mystery, love, and pathos. From Damian we read:
