About the Book

For anyone who believes Tennyson’s old adage ‘tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all, this book is for you. Twenty-first century life is wrought with failed relationships. For the first time in history marriages have a less than 50% survival rate, as the poet here knows first-hand. With a triumph of the human spirit, Mary Morgan Brown rises above the ashes of her painful past to discover the glimmer of promise that fate has better things in store.

With raw honesty, sensuality, and humility, Ms. Brown chronicles the stages of love from the flirtatious risk taking to the broken promises. The universality of love permeates her poems about letting go and learning to love yourself again. You will laugh, cry, get angry, sigh, and cheer as this romantic soul touches yours. And you’ll be even more convinced that Tennyson was right afterall!

About the Author

Born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and raised in western New York State, Mary Morgan Brown received her B.A. degree in English from the State University of New York at Brockport. She taught a few years in Rochester, New York, before accepting a teaching position in Schaumburg, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, where she taught for almost thirty years. Once her four children were in middle school and high school, she completed her M.Ed degree at National Lewis University. For several years, Mary was also an adjunct education professor at DePaul University. A cross country move accompanied her recent marriage and early retirement from teaching. She now works for a non-profit company which provides affordable quality housing to low-income seniors. No matter where she has lived, Mary has always been passionately involved in social justice work and programs for disadvantaged youth. Love Is the Remedy: Poems for a Mending Heart is Ms. Brown’s first book of poetry, although she has other volumes in the works. Several poems in this collection have previously been published in magazines and poetry journals. She also writes song lyrics. Mary Morgan Brown currently resides in Oakland, California, with her husband Gregg, a mission developer for a new church start.
